John Smith is proud to be a singer (Baritone/Bass) in the ''Citizens of The World Choir''. Link...... To be accepted into a choir that has performed for our King & late Queen, many prestigious events with huge audiences, not least ''Bake Off'' that truly believes in equality & inclusivity is a huge honour & proves that disability in 2024 should be no barrier to success in the performing arts if the organisations truly believe that to be the case.
NEWS UPDATE. 11/9/2024 Westminster City Council (WCC) licensing staff threatened to have disabled wheelchair singer ''John Smith'' arrested for singing beside the Royal Opera House Convent Garden. Hello
At the age of 14 I suffered a sports injury that left me with a damaged spine that progressed from walking normally to a walking stick crouches then wheelchair. I have lived with chronic pain every day since my injury.
There has been a lot of pressure on me to give up performing, the performing arts does not provide the resources for disabled wheelchair performers that under the law they are supposed to.
There has been continued disability hate speech with little to no support from the authorities but despite this I have continued. Even busking to supplement my income The London Mayor Greenwich Council & Westminster City Council, the 3 locations were I perform, still refuse me, a wheelchair disabled performer, reasonable adjustments quite unlawfully even though the choirs I perform with are part funded by Greenwich Council and funded by the Government through the Arts Council.
The ''Citizens Of The World Choir''...Click Here is a diverse professional choir that is rare in that they support me & this allows me to continue as a professional performer.
